Trace at London Festival of Architecture
The two cast models of the World War II, air raid shelter responded to the London Festival of Architecture’s theme ‘memory’. The shelter, accessible through the Hopton Street Almshouses, sits adjacent to the residential development, Neo Bankside built in the shadow of Tate Modern, London. The shelter is a little known piece of subterranean architecture and the models acts as a reminder of London’s recent industrial past, fast becoming forgotten in Bankside which was known for its concentration of small manufacturers, such as paper manufacturing, which used to supply Fleet Street.
